What to Do If You’ve Lost Your Bag

Sometimes traveling overseas can be risky, as you are not familiar with the places and only have limited resources. It will be even worse if your bag and passport are stolen in a foreign country. Here are some tips on what you can do in such a situation.

Call the police

Some of you may hesitate, probably because you have heard that the police in some countries are corrupt. But let’s have some faith, most of the police in this world are helpful. They can recover your gear and keep you safe. Most importantly, if you want to claim the travel insurance for lost items, a police report is necessary.

Contact local embassy

Whether you can easily contact your country’s embassy depends on where you are. Despite that, it is still an important step to go home. Make sure you make a call first, before going to the consulate. Tell them about your situation and let them know if you want to travel home immediately.

Gather money

Usually, an emergency passport can be issued within a day. But first of all, you will need some money to make one. Don’t think that your embassy will help you with the money or just give you a new passport for free. If you don’t have any money in your pocket, just call your family and friends and ask them for some emergency money.
